Iranian Students Continue Their Fight for Freedom: The Voice of Youth Cannot Be Silenced

Yesterday, February 21, 2026, students from leading universities in Iran once again took to the streets in protest, demonstrating that the people’s desire for freedom cannot be suppressed by force. Students at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran held a sit-in to honor those killed during the January protests and to express solidarity with those who have been detained. This was not only an act of remembrance, but also an act of courage and civic dignity, showing that the memory of the victims lives on and that fear can no longer silence the truth. In the capital, students from Tehran University of Technology blocked a street, chanting: “Do not be afraid, we are together!” This slogan has become a powerful symbol of solidarity and unity in the face of repression. Mashhad University of Medical Sciences also became a site of protest, where students openly chanted: “Freedom!” In at least one incident, protesters clashed with members of the Basij militia, a paramilitary force used by the authorities to suppress their own people. Videos show students chanting: “Death to Khamenei” and “Long live the Shah,” reflecting a deep crisis of trust in the current political system and an open challenge to dictatorship. These events clearly demonstrate that the protest movement in Iran is not weakening. On the contrary, despite mass arrests, threats, violence, and repression, protests continue to gain momentum. It is especially significant that young people — students, the future of the country — are at the forefront of this struggle. Today, Iranian students are doing something that requires extraordinary courage: they are speaking the truth. They are demanding freedom. They are demanding dignity. They are demanding a future. The Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement «DAYANÇ / Turkmenistan» expresses its deep solidarity with the people of Iran — with students, women, men, and all citizens who are peacefully fighting for their fundamental human rights and freedoms. We support the Iranian people’s aspiration to live in a country where human rights are respected. A country where freedom of speech is not a crime. A country where the state serves the people, not oppresses them. History shows that dictatorships may last for years, but they are not eternal. No system based on fear, violence, and repression can withstand the power of a people who demand freedom. We call on the international community — the United Nations, the European Union, the OSCE, human rights organizations, and all democratic nations — to take real and decisive action to protect the people of Iran. The international community must not remain a passive observer. Silence means complicity. The following urgent steps are needed: — international pressure on Iranian authorities — protection of peaceful protesters — immediate release of all political prisoners — independent investigation into violence against civilians — support for democratic rights and freedoms Freedom is not a crime. Freedom is a fundamental human right. Today, Iranian students are showing the world that even in the face of dictatorship, the people can rise and say: we are not afraid. The Human Rights Platform of the Civil Movement DAYANÇ / Turkmenistan expresses its full support for the people of Iran. A free Iran is inevitable.
