Results of the Action Commemorating the Day of Farhad Meymankuliyev’s Unlawful Deportation We express our gratitude to everyone who supported the commemorative action dedicated to the day of the unlawful deportation of civil activist Farhad Meymankuliyev. Special thanks to: Muhammed Devejinijad — Chairman of the Coordination Council of Democratic Forces of Turkmenistan https://youtu.be/yeIy96LP_cc?si=mXpPEgtjgzKZmEY5 Nurdzhan Syuzer — Representative of the общественно-политической organization DVT https://youtu.be/xiej3dbDkIw?si=qVzqn4x5do92xKmR Nurgeldy Annaeva — Civil activist https://youtu.be/vtEI0gFKnbE?si=OzgCAzFW0YmaHG1P We also thank everyone who did not remain indifferent and supported the action — publicly or silently. It is important to note that civil society in Turkmenistan remains extremely weak and continues to live in an atmosphere of fear. Many people who wish to support human rights initiatives and civic actions are afraid for their safety. Threats, intimidation, pressure, and the risk of persecution force citizens to remain silent and avoid openly expressing their support. We are confident that there was far more support behind the screens than what could be seen publicly. On the evening of May 20, 2026, we dedicated a live broadcast to the issue of transnational repression. During the broadcast, we discussed how impunity leads to tragic consequences. We spoke about forcibly deported, forcibly abducted, and forcibly disappeared civil activists. We also analyzed why, for more than thirty years, there has not been a single meaningful result in investigations related to political persecution or the release of political prisoners. Parallels were drawn with the situation in Belarus. The broadcast was active and engaging — citizens of Turkmenistan asked questions, shared their concerns, and participated in the discussion. We openly expressed our views regarding the current situation. Representatives of the Human Rights Platform of the Civic Movement “Dayanch” / Turkmenistan declare: Freedom of speech is not a crime — it is a constitutional right. Every citizen has the right to demand the protection of their rights, to demand the implementation of the Constitution, and to hold state institutions accountable. The guarantors of the Constitution are obligated to listen to citizens, address shortcomings, and fulfill their responsibilities to the people. Power is not a monarchy. Government officials are temporary representatives entrusted with ensuring that the people are protected, provided with essential needs, and able to live in dignity and safety. When the government itself becomes a source of threats, fear, and persecution against its own citizens, this becomes a form of systemic violence that destroys society from within. We will continue searching for effective tools to fight transnational repression and to defend human rights.
