February 24, 2026 marks four years since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. This date has become a tragic milestone in modern history and a symbol of destroyed lives, broken destinies, and the suffering of millions of families. The Human Rights Platform of the Civic Movement “DAYANÇ” / Turkmenistan expresses its deepest condolences to all families who lost their loved ones as a result of this war and expresses solidarity with all those who continue to live with its consequences. War is, above all, a violation of the fundamental human right — the right to life. It destroys families, takes away the future, and deprives people of the opportunity to live, love, raise their children, and see a peaceful sky above them. This war has also affected citizens of Turkmenistan. Some have become involved in military actions on different sides of the conflict. Behind each of these cases stands a family living with pain, uncertainty, or loss. The Human Rights Platform “DAYANÇ” / Turkmenistan has repeatedly called on the authorities of Turkmenistan to issue a clear and public statement declaring the inadmissibility of participation of Turkmen citizens in military actions against Ukraine. Participation in a war against the territorial integrity of a sovereign state constitutes a serious violation of international law and contradicts the fundamental principles of human rights. While speaking about peace and stability within their own country, states have neither the moral nor legal right to ignore the destruction of peace in other countries. The right to life is universal and does not depend on citizenship, nationality, or political circumstances. The Human Rights Platform “DAYANÇ” / Turkmenistan reaffirms its commitment to protecting human rights, preserving the memory of war victims, and continuing its work to defend human dignity, freedom, and life. Memory is responsibility. Truth is duty. The right to life is the foundation of all human rights.
